About the Organization
The Flying Chanclas are a nonprofit baseball organization incorporated in the Fall of 2025 to expand access to baseball opportunities and development for youth in rural Imperial County.
In today’s youth sports landscape, advanced training and competitive opportunities are often limited to families with significant financial resources, especially in large metropolitan areas. We exist to challenge that model. Our mission is simple: a desire to play —not income or zip code—should determine opportunity.
By removing profit, excessive overhead, and pay-to-play barriers, we provide Imperial County kids with the same experiences at rec league costs. Talent is everywhere, opportunity is not- and we are here to change that.
The Flying Chanclas are a youth sports nonprofit that uses baseball as a tool to provide access, mentorship, and opportunity for underserved youth in rural Imperial County. Read on to learn how Chanclas is building a better model for youth baseball.
The Chancla Operating Philosophy
Coaching
The Flying Chanclas provide experienced and trained coaches who volunteer their time, eliminating the largest expense in traditional travel baseball.
-
Coaching quality does not depend on pay, but on experience, knowledge, and commitment.
-
Our coaches have playing and coaching backgrounds and choose to serve because they believe in the mission.
-
Removing salaries allows player fees to stay low without sacrificing instruction quality.
We don’t cut corners—we cut profit.
Development
The Chanclas incorporate integrated skill development into regular practices rather than charging separately for private lessons.
-
Coaches are cross-trained to teach multiple skill areas.
-
Small-group instruction is embedded into team sessions.
-
Strength, agility, and arm care are taught using bodyweight and functional training.
Development is about structure and knowledge—not expensive add-ons.
Tournaments
Tournament participation is carefully selected and budget-controlled.
-
Volunteer coaches cover their own travel or costs are minimized through carpooling and shared lodging.
-
The organization does not pass luxury expenses onto families.
-
We prioritize developmentally appropriate activities, not excessive tournament schedules.
We choose tournaments that serve the players—not the organization.
Travel
The Chanclas emphasize regional and strategic travel, reducing unnecessary expenses.
-
Players are exposed to competition without excessive flights or hotel stays.
-
When extended travel occurs, it is planned transparently and efficiently.
-
Families are never surprised by hidden costs.
Experiences don't require luxury travel.
Uniforms & Equipment
The Chanclas provide high-quality but practical uniforms and equipment, prioritizing function over branding.
-
No excessive uniform packages.
-
Gear is reused, donated, or subsidized when possible.
-
Families are not pressured into constant upgrades of gloves, bats or other equipment.
Baseball skill isn’t improved by the price tag on a jersey.
Administrative Overhead
The Chanclas operate with volunteer leadership and transparent nonprofit governance.
-
No bloated administrative salaries.
-
Funds go directly to organization programs.
-
The organization is governed by a volunteer board of community members who support operations and guide the program in alignment with its mission.
Our overhead is accountability—not payroll.

Meet the Board of Directors
About
The Flying Chanclas are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors responsible for oversight, strategy, and mission alignment. The inaugural board was appointed in 2025 and will serve through 2027, providing leadership and accountability as the organization establishes its foundation and long-term impact.
Board members also carry fiduciary responsibilities to the organization, including duties of care, loyalty, and obedience. These duties require directors to act in the best interest of the nonprofit, ensure responsible financial oversight, maintain transparency, and ensure that all decisions align with the Flying Chanclas’ charitable mission and community purpose.
Community members interested in supporting the organization through board committees or volunteer leadership opportunities are encouraged to contact us to learn more.
